Tania Vrancic is a ceramic artist based in Canberra, Australia. Her designs have (and continue to) gain success at high end design markets based in Canberra. Her production work is sold under the name ‘Kittilä by Tania Tuominen’ (her maiden name). In 2016, Tania made the decision to move from production work and focus on creating conceptual artworks. She plans to exhibit locally and nationally showcasing new ceramic works.
My parents are both Finnish, and although I was born in Australia I was fortunate to spend part of my childhood in Finland. Although it was only 2 ½ years it left a lasting impression. At the core I am truly Finnish.
Now almost 40 years later as I returned to visit Finland I was surprised to discover how much Finnish design resonates with me as an artist. The wonderful design aesthetic that is quintessentially Scandinavian is a part of daily life seen not only in the public design and architecture but inside every home. I don’t think there is a single home that does not house either Iittala, Marimekko or Arabia homewares. It is this sense of being surrounded by beautiful things that gives me peace, joy and connection to my family history.
Joyful is my first exploration of art and design through mixed media and painting. The process is something that I find meditative and I leave my studio each day with a great feeling of wellbeing. I hope my joy from the creative process shines through for you to enjoy.
